Oddly enough we are being told we are in some sort economic funk A.K.A., a recession. Hmmmm, wonder if that transcends into wedding bookings? Well according to some of my colleagues in other parts of the country (Most Notably the South), weddings are flying off the handle and they are in fact turning brides away! Right here in Boise, things aren’t so rosy for many who are used to booking several weddings a year. I have at least 3 fellow photographers that have told me that their bookings are way down this year. What’s even stranger, though I have booked summer through the hilt this will be the first spring that I have not shot a wedding in quite some time. It sucks and yet it is nice because I have had the chance to go out and do some seriously wicked stuff on my own, most notably my little book project that I hope to have finished by next year. Nahh, I would rather do weddings...Whatever the reason I just hope it isn't due to the flood of Myspacer's who now think they are Ansel Adams and are swallowing up the Boise market. I say good for them but for the brides of this area, don't expect too much.

If you are one of my brides to be for this summer and you read this know that I am going to be chomping at the bit and super anxious once we get underway so bear with me. Why? Cause I am dying for some new bridal material and I would love nothing more than to do something really out there such as post a bride atop of this old Army vehicle I found behind Gowen Field (see top pic). Who is up for it?

Lastly, go rent “Into the Wild” and write me back telling me what you think. That movie will move you in ways a flick has never done before! Talk about self discovery and appreciating what really matters in this world. Oh and the soundtrack sung by Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam ain’t too bad either.

Can Spring Come Any Quicker?

Ahhh the thought of Spring is oh so sweet I admit I have “cabin fever” something fierce! Lately life has been nothing more than a work study of sorts. The Nikon D300 is one camera not for the faint of heart rather, the photographer looking to learn how to fly a plane. My point is, there are more choices, gadgets, settings, & options than I have ever seen. Trying to remember all of them seems to be the hardest part. On that note I have been lucky enough to own an IPOD Touch and using ITunes, I simply download tutorials on the inns and out’s of the D300 and listen to them in my car. What a deal huh? Engagement sessions are looming and I am really hoping to throw in some different types of shots for you couples this year. For example, on Parkcenter Blvd. there is a median that runs in-line with Beacon Ave and right at the end of the median is a guardrail and a slight curve in the road. I would absolutely love to pose a couple sitting down against the front of the guardrail while doing a timed exposure to get the streak effect of the cars whizzing by (no worries this is safe). Stay tuned, I will gauge which couple fits this particular shot idea as I begin the sessions. Of course there will be plenty of traditional mixed in there but the need to be different and unique is picking at me no less and though that sounds cliche, it is picking at me no less.

Nikon D300

Well if any of you have looked I failed to post 2007’s best bridal pictures. Well, after some thought it dawned upon me that my favorites are already on my site! I figured it was pointless to re-post them under a blog. Be that as it may, I upgraded to the new Nikon D300 and like I have read by so many others, it is nothing short of amazing! It does things I only dreamed of and I personally believe that it will change the way I take pictures forever! The colors are unbelievable as is the unique features that will forever diversify one’s portfolio. I included a sample shot that was taken on the fly but being a photographer I notice things in the image that my other cameras would not have been able to provide. Just got through moving and let me tell ya it sucked! Should have offered a discount to any bride who wanted to help me heave a massive couch down a flight of stairs! Enough already I have pictures to take.

Happy New Year

Well 2007 is officially done and what a year it was. Spent New Year’s in Oregon with a load of fellow celebrating friends and I am here to tell ya it was a long one. 2008 promises to be a great year and I have some super cool photo projects in the works that I hope to complete. For example, I will be doing a coffee table book of select people in Idaho doing any number of things. This figures to be a super cool abstract project and I will announce it’s arrival when the time comes. I just received my 30x40 painting of a picture that I took of me and my son last year. The artwork is amazing and was done on canvass by a local artist named Cindi Duft. She is nothing short of superior and if you become interested in having one of your own pictures done this way, let me know and I will get you in touch with her. As for my 2007 favorite bridal pictures I am currently assembling them and will hopefully post them this week in the “Pics of the Week” gallery. Hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year and if you are anything like me you are still recovering from the suds!

Salty City my last wedding

Well as promised I posted a picture from my good friend Shan’s Salt Lake City wedding. The pond in front of the temple is simply amazing and if you are ever given a chance to see Temple Square, DO IT! Salty City is nothing short of cool though I didn’t realize just how much smog covers that place. Had a strange experience to say the least the night before the wedding. The bride had gotten me a room at Hotel Monaco and since we had some extra time, I had the bride come down to the lobby (which was gorgeous) to do some pre-formal shots. Shortly after we began, good ole Tommy Lee (From Motley Crew) comes walking in. We were all caught off guard but I did manage to say “what up” to one of Rock N Rolls true bad boys. Anyway, that wedding wrapped up what has been an awesome year in weddings and in saying that, I want to thank everyone who had me photograph their wedding it was a true pleasure. I want to point out that this last wedding for 07 just happened to be a close and dear friend of mine. She was the first real friend I made upon my arrival in Boise from Big Sky Country and it has been no small pleasure having her in my life. Some of the funniest moments in both my personal and professional life have been shared by her and there isn't a day that goes by I am not grateful for her friendship. She married an awesome guy who is well on his way to accomplishing much in his life and would give the shirt off his back while he was at it. With that, I wish them both the best and look forward to seeing their shining faces in front of the lens down the road.

2007’s best wedding pics will be posted in my Pics of the Week gallery in late December for sure so be looking. Till then, enjoy the holiday season I will see ya in 2008!

Home to the Big Easy!

Been having some fun down in the Big Easy! Let me tell you that city has cleaned itself up considerably! So much for the hurricane wiping everything out. I was really impressed with the effort of the people who are trying to restore one of this countries great cities. I had the chance to watch the family alum, LSU play Arkansas on Friday after Thanksgiving and it was nothing short of a heart breaker. At $80 a seat, I would have liked to have won dammit! No more weddings in 2007 from this point forward we are all about Lance. Time for me to take some shots that appeal to me and perhaps, only me. Speaking of weddings, I will post some pictures of Trev and Shan’s wedding in Temple Square down in Salty City. I had a great time and so far, I am loving the pictures we got. Not much more to report but I will be back shortly with some shots from Salt Lake.

Fall is in the air

Let me start by saying sorry, I have been really bad about posting lately. Well I am down to one more wedding this year (Salt Lake City in November) and that will just about wrap things up. Been doing some family portraits and preparing for the advertising rush in 2008. What I find to be the best part of having some free time is that I get to shoot some pictures for me, by me. Of course I have included a couple in the blog and as always, you can find many of them listed in the “Pics of the Week” section of my website. More to follow soon and be on the lookout for my collection of the 2007 best bridal pictures. I will compile and post sometime in either December or January. I want to recognize those brides that gave me some STUNNING photographs this year!
